How the stack finder picks tools

Each format is split into the jobs it needs. For each job we take the tools listed on that job page on ShortStack, then keep only the ones that fit your budget and the platform you post to. "Free only" keeps tools with a free plan. "Under $20" keeps tools with a free plan or a cheapest paid plan under $20, and the total you would have to pay stays under it too.

From what is left, we rank tools tagged for that exact job first (for example, podcast recorders for recording a podcast). On "Free only", tools with a free plan come next. On a paid budget, a free plan gives no head start: tools used in our curated creator stacks and tools whose plans and prices we have checked ourselves come first, then no watermark and a lower price. The "cheapest version" button sorts by what it costs to start, free plans first, then the lowest paid price. The next tool in line is shown as the runner-up. Affiliate links and sponsorships play no part.
