Engagement rate
Sample footage: Mixkit
Quick answer: engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100. For example, 500 likes, 40 comments, 30 shares and 30 saves on 20,000 views is 3%. Divide by followers instead of views to compare with reports that use follower counts.
The two formulas
- By views: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100. Use it to judge one video, since people who do not follow you can see your videos too.
- By followers: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100. Use it to compare with published benchmarks that divide by followers.
Pick one method and stick with it when you compare your own videos over time. Rates by views and by followers are not comparable with each other.

These figures are for company accounts, not individual creators, and they divide by followers. We show no benchmark for the by-views method or for YouTube Shorts, because we found none that states its formula and sample.

Questions
How do you calculate engagement rate on TikTok?
Add up likes, comments, shares and saves on a video, divide by its views and multiply by 100. For example, 600 interactions on 20,000 views is 3%. To compare with reports that use followers, divide by your follower count instead.
Should I calculate engagement rate by views or by followers?
Use views to judge one video, because many people who watch a Short, TikTok or Reel do not follow you. Use followers when you want to compare with published reports that divide by followers, such as the Quid benchmark on this page.
What is a good engagement rate on TikTok or Instagram?
The only benchmark we show is Quid's 2026 Social Media Industry Benchmark Report: a median engagement rate per post of 2.01% on TikTok and 0.30% on Instagram, by followers, for company accounts. We found no published benchmark by views, or for YouTube Shorts, that states its formula and sample.
Do saves and shares count as engagement?
Yes, in this calculator. Quid counts all interactions with a post, including likes, comments, shares and reposts. If your app does not show saves, leave that box at 0.
Why is my engagement rate by followers over 100%?
A video can reach far more people than follow you. If it gets more interactions than you have followers, the follower-based rate goes above 100%. That is why the by-views method is better for judging a single video.
