Is Epidemic Sound worth it? (2026)
Royalty-free music, SFX and footage with a universal license.
Creator-focused music platform with a free tier of 3 downloads a month.
YouTube's native dashboard for uploading, scheduling and analyzing Shorts, with free audio library.
Unlimited royalty-free music and SFX for personal and client work.
Free music and SFX under a license allowing commercial use without attribution.
Short answer: worth it if you publish often and want one subscription that clears music and sound effects across your channels. Epidemic Sound gives unlimited downloads, and videos you publish while subscribed stay cleared after you cancel. It is not worth it if you post a few videos a year, do client work on the Creator plan, or want to keep using tracks in new uploads after you stop paying. In those cases, the free YouTube Audio Library or Uppbeat is the better start.
This isn't legal advice. Policies change, so check the linked official pages before you rely on them.
What you get
- Plans: Creator, Pro and Enterprise. Both Creator and Pro include unlimited downloads and usage, copyright protection and plugins (per the pricing page).
- Monthly or yearly billing with no long-term contract. Yearly is discounted. Cancel anytime and keep access until the plan's end date; no prorated refunds.
- Prices, per Epidemic's own blog: Creator $9.99/mo billed yearly or $17.99 monthly; Pro $16.99/mo yearly or $39.99 monthly.
- A free trial is offered. Its length isn't stated on the pages we read. Content you publish during the trial is cleared the same way as on a paid plan.
The licence detail that matters most
Epidemic's Creator plan page says: "What you publish during an active subscription is cleared forever." That holds if your channels were safelisted and you stayed within the plan terms. Anything published after your subscription ends is not cleared and may get copyright claims, including tracks you downloaded but never used while subscribed. So downloading a big stack of music before you cancel doesn't help.
Creator vs Pro
| Creator | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it's for | Individuals publishing on their own channels | Freelancers, client and commercial work |
| Monetized channels | 1 per platform | Up to 3 per platform |
| Digital ads | Not covered | Covered |
| Client sublicensing | No | Yes |
What it costs in a year
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly for 12 months |
|---|---|---|
| Creator | $119.88 ($9.99 x 12) | $215.88 ($17.99 x 12) |
| Pro | $203.88 ($16.99 x 12) | $479.88 ($39.99 x 12) |
If you post two videos a week, Creator billed yearly works out to about $1.15 per video. If you post one video a month, it's about $10 a video, and a free library or a one-off licence is cheaper.
When it's worth it
- You post several videos a week on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram from one channel each.
- You want sound effects and music from one place, cleared automatically through safelisting.
- You plan to keep subscribing for as long as you publish new videos.
When it isn't
- Low volume: the free YouTube Audio Library won't get Content ID claims, according to YouTube's Shorts music help.
- You run several channels on one platform or make content for clients: Creator won't cover that; you need Pro.
- Tight budget: Uppbeat has a free tier with a credit line, and Pixabay Music is free. Artlist and Soundstripe are the other subscription libraries to compare. Read their licence-after-cancel terms the same way.
