What is a link in bio?
In short: The single link a profile allows, usually pointing to a page that lists all your links, products and offers.
TikTok and Instagram give most accounts only one clickable link on the profile. A link-in-bio page turns that one link into a menu: your latest video, a store, affiliate links, a newsletter sign-up, a booking page.
Some tools add a storefront so you can sell digital products directly. Pick one with simple analytics so you can see which links people actually tap.
Example
Say you post a Short reviewing a microphone and say the link is in your bio. Your link-in-bio page lists, from the top: this week's video, the affiliate link for the mic, your newsletter sign-up and a form for brand inquiries. A week later, the page's analytics show which link people tapped most, so you move it to the top. Keep the list short, and update the first link every time you post something new.
Tips for creators
- Open your link-in-bio page on your phone after every change and tap each link. A broken top link wastes the visits from the video that sent people there.
- Label affiliate links on the page, and say in the video when a link earns you a commission. Disclosure rules vary by country, so check where you and your audience live.
- Choose a short, readable page address that people can type from memory, such as your handle, for the times you mention it out loud in a video.
Common questions
Do I need a link-in-bio tool?
Not if one link is enough. A link-in-bio tool helps once you have several destinations, such as a store, affiliate links and a newsletter, or when you want to see which links people tap. Linktree, Beacons and Stan Store are examples listed in our directory.
Where should my link in bio point after a video takes off?
Point the top link at whatever that video promised, such as the product, the full video or the free resource. Viewers arriving from one post are looking for that one thing, so don't make them scroll past older links to find it.
