What is content repurposing?
In short: Turning one piece of content into many, such as cutting a long video into Shorts or a podcast into clips and posts.
Repurposing means getting more out of work you've already done. One recorded podcast episode can become several Shorts, TikToks and Reels, a newsletter and a few text posts.
It works best when each new piece is edited for its format, with a fresh hook, vertical framing and captions, rather than posted as a straight copy.
Example
Say you record a 40-minute podcast episode. Run it through an AI clipper and keep the five clips you would actually post. Give each one a new first line as the hook, reframe it to 9:16 at 1080 × 1920 and proofread the captions. Post one a day across Shorts, TikTok and Reels. Then turn the episode's main point into a newsletter and two text posts. One recording becomes a week of posts, each edited for its own format.
Tips for creators
- Write a fresh hook for every clip. A line that worked 20 minutes into a conversation often needs a rewrite to make sense as a cold opening.
- Check music before you repurpose across apps. A song licensed on one platform isn't automatically licensed on another, so keep a music-free master and add audio per app.
- Batch the work: clip, caption and schedule the whole week in one sitting. In our creator stacks, clips cut from a long video take about 15 to 25 minutes each.
Common questions
Is repurposing my own content allowed on YouTube?
Yes. The reused content rule is about other people's material without a meaningful difference. Turning your own long videos or podcast into Shorts is fine, though it still helps to edit each clip so it makes sense on its own.
What is the difference between repurposing and cross-posting?
Repurposing turns one piece into new pieces, such as clips, posts or a newsletter, each edited for its format. Cross-posting publishes the same finished video to several platforms. You can do both: repurpose a long video into Shorts, then cross-post each Short.
