What is a video watermark?
In short: A logo or text an app adds to your exported video, often on free plans.
Many free video tools add their logo to exports, or add an ending clip with their branding. Watermarks look unprofessional, and Instagram says Reels with watermarks from other apps may not be recommended, so it's one of the first things to check before you choose a free tool.
On ShortStack, each tool page notes whether the free plan adds a watermark, and the directory has a "No watermark" filter.
Example
Say you edit a Short in CapCut from a template, and it ends with a branded clip. CapCut's help center says the watermark usually comes from that default ending clip or a template layer, not from the export itself. Delete the ending clip and any logo layer, then export. In Canva, a watermark appears only when you use a Pro element on the free plan, so swap it for a free one. Then post your own clean export, never a file downloaded from another app.
Tips for creators
- Export once from your editor as a clean master and post that file everywhere. A video downloaded from TikTok carries its logo onto every other app.
- Run a short test export before you build a whole project in a new free tool, so you find out early whether it adds a logo or ending clip.
- Read a free plan's other limits too. OpusClip's free plan, for example, adds a watermark, and its clips expire after 3 days.
Common questions
Do I need CapCut Pro to remove the CapCut ending?
No. You can delete CapCut's ending clip on the free plan before you export, and CapCut's help article doesn't say Pro is needed. If a watermark still shows after you remove every visible element, CapCut says to contact its support team.
Which free editors export without a watermark?
Among the tools we track, Clipchamp's free plan exports up to 1080p with no watermark, DaVinci Resolve is a free desktop editor, and the Edits by Meta App Store listing says it exports in 4K without a watermark. Plans change, so check before you rely on it.
